2016 was surely a remarkable year to what we call “API Economy”, we saw APIs consolidating themselves as fundamental for any Digital Strategy. In an article from Smarter with Gartner, in April of that year, Rob van der Meulen reinforced a vision that we share here at Sensedia, and stated:
APIs are at the heart of Digital Business.
And it was a remarkable year for Sensedia too, because in 2016, Sensedia not only grew fast, but was recognized by the two greatest consulting companies in the world: As Strong-Performers by Forrester in Wave Q4 2016 , in November, and as Visionaries in the Gartner Magic Quadrant, in October.

Certainly the API Economy is only just beginning to emerge, and the hype around it is still growing as digital strategies and the pervasive use of the Internet of Things (IoT) unfold. An organization’s API strategy underpins its digital strategy — and is a sizable portion of it — so engaging with the API economy is an integral part of any digital strategy.
